emo:
"Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock. -
fourfa i never knew that 'emo' is actually a genre for punk rock. i realised people often misuse the word usually using it in the context of a person being depressed (albeit, it is technically correct as well).
well, referring it to this context (depressed) it seems as though 'emo' has strangely become a trend. from a fashion statement - dark gothic looks with fishnets and hand socks- to a sadistic pleasure in hurting oneself-wrist cutting. it is rather disturbing that it has come to a point where wrist cutting has become 'cool'. well let me warn you; it is not.
there are people out there who does suffer from depression and has to resort in acting out. wrist cutting is not a fashion statement as some young ones seem to think. (note on how i emphasize on some)
gothic looks probably came from the latest trend of j-rock, although believe it or not gothic was popular much earlier on and existed until the late 1990s- many who were interested indie emo . it was not until recent years that 'goth' became popular again and now wherever i go i'll never fail to see people wearing thick layers of mascara with an accessory that is black to define their style.
many of the story lines we see these days are often morbid and even a little warped; depressing with psychological turnovers. it can be enticingly exciting yet tremendously disturbing depending on how screwed the concept is. yet these people are often the nicest people you can find on this earth, where they are understanding and sensitive to those that are around them.
the 'emo' trend seems to be popular with teens and young adults in the 21st century and i wonder how long this will last and definitely question what's the next trend will be.
